Description

A rough character painting exercise - two evenings, Photoshop 7.0. Also, I put together a step-by-step account of the painting process. A link to that page can be found below.

This rocks... the thumbnail on white however is another story. I gets lost and doesn't jump out. I just freakin' love the new works your doing. You are quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Btw, did you ever get that "Gwen Stacy" portrait/pic finished? Dying to see it done.

nerfherder - thanks; the thumbnail was made with the background layer turned off accidentally. Maybe I will go back and fix that. The Spider-man and Gwen Stacy image is still percolating. Too many problems with that one, I may have to start over on it.

Sally - thank you I'm glad you found that useful.

huronblackhart - like Martin said, it is all Photoshop. It's funny because I love how Painter looks, but can't get past the interface. I've been experimenting with ways to get similar texture effects in Painter. It's possible, but Painter is better at what Painter does...

pwyll - thanks man!

Martin - yup!

thanks for the comments!

Great, with an interesting tutorial too (and thank heaven for someone who knows how to compress their tutorial images properly! - from someone on a s-l-o-o-o-o-w dial up!)

I'm not a fan of straight character studies because I normally like to see a background and some context, but for some reason this one really works. It's possibly the dynamism of the character's stance and the absence of too many "fiddly bits"... and the fact he has one giant arm - I love characters with one arm bigger than the other !! :)

the lighting is really great and add much depth to the character. I also love asymetrical bodies

Great pic, other than it's hard to tell whether the background is shadows or some sort of odd fog, it's a perfect piece of artwork.
