huronblackhart - like Martin said, it is all Photoshop. It's funny because I love how Painter looks, but can't get past the interface. I've been experimenting with ways to get similar texture effects in Painter. It's possible, but Painter is better at what Painter does...

I'm not a fan of straight character studies because I normally like to see a background and some context, but for some reason this one really works. It's possibly the dynamism of the character's stance and the absence of too many "fiddly bits"... and the fact he has one giant arm - I love characters with one arm bigger than the other !!
